Although the\u00a0closed-door deposition<\/strong>\u00a0was not aired live, Hillary shared her\u00a0opening statement<\/a>\u00a0on X ahead of her appearance before committee members.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She argued that the committee subpoenaed her based on the assumption that\u00a0she had information\u00a0<\/strong>relevant to the investigation into the criminal activities of convicted sex offenders Jeffrey and\u00a0Ghislaine Maxwell.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Hillary said that assumption was incorrect,\u00a0stating<\/a>, \u201cLet me be as clear as I can. I do not.\u201d The 78-year-old reiterated what she had previously said in a sworn declaration on January 13, noting that she\u00a0had no knowledge<\/strong>\u00a0of their criminal investigations.<\/p>\n

Hillary added that, like many people,\u00a0she was horrified\u00a0<\/strong>by what she later learned about Jeffrey and Ghislaine\u2019s crimes. She\u00a0described<\/a>\u00a0it as \u201cunfathomable\u201d that Jeffrey received what she characterized as a slap on the wrist in 2008, saying it allowed him to continue\u00a0predatory behavior<\/strong>\u00a0for another decade.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In closing, Hillary said Jeffrey\u2019s victims \u2014 along with millions of others affected by sex trafficking \u2014\u00a0deserve justice.\u00a0<\/strong>She added that this can only be achieved if there are no cover-ups, no holding back, and no protection for individuals.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

After the deposition concluded, Hillary\u00a0briefly addressed<\/a>\u00a0reporters outside. She again denied any association with Jeffrey and clarified that her only connection to Ghislaine was\u00a0as an acquaintance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She also said\u00a0she was disappointed<\/a>\u00a0that the testimony\u00a0was not made public<\/strong>, noting that a public session would have spared her from having to characterize it herself.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Hillary then addressed the length of the proceedings. She explained that because both sides had agreed to a closed-door hearing, the session\u00a0had to pause\u00a0<\/strong>when that agreement was broken. In January, the committee\u2019s Republican Leader,\u00a0Representative James R. Comer\u00a0<\/strong>of Kentucky, set deadlines for Hillary and the former U.S. President to appear before the committee. Hours before that deadline expired, Bill and Hillary signaled\u00a0they would not\u00a0<\/strong>be heading to Capitol Hill for questioning by James and his panel.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Instead, they submitted an\u00a0eight-page legal letter\u00a0<\/strong>outlining why they believed the subpoenas were invalid and legally unenforceable. They followed it with a strongly worded joint message, making clear they were prepared to challenge James on the matter for as long as necessary.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In their letter, Bill and Hillary pointed out that they had already\u00a0provided sworn statements<\/strong>\u00a0to James \u2014 similar to those he had accepted from several former law enforcement officials who were subpoenaed but ultimately excused from testifying.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He maintained that no one was accusing Bill of wrongdoing, but emphasized that there\u00a0were still questions<\/strong>\u00a0the committee wanted answered.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This back-and-forth dragged on for months until James threatened\u00a0to take steps<\/a>\u00a0to hold Bill and Hillary in\u00a0contempt of Congress<\/strong>\u00a0proceedings. The couple then agreed to testify. Bill is now also scheduled to sit for a deposition on Friday,\u00a0February 27, 2026<\/strong>, regarding his ties to Jeffrey.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Aside from Hillary and her husband, Bill\u2019s\u00a0former deputy chief of staff<\/strong>, Angel Ure\u00f1a, has also spoken out. She opened up in a\u00a0statement on X<\/a>\u00a0after the December 19, 2025, release of documents and photos tied to the investigation into sex trafficker\u00a0Jeffrey Epstein<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Bill appeared in several of the\u00a0images made public<\/a>\u00a0by the Department of Justice (DOJ) under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which was\u00a0signed into law\u00a0<\/strong>by Donald on November 19. Consequently, Angel posted on X criticizing the DOJ\u2019s decision to release the files late on a Friday, arguing that the move was not intended to protect Bill.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In the statement, Angel referenced the White House and dismissed suggestions that the\u00a0timing of the release<\/strong>\u00a0was meant to shield Bill. The message also pointed to Donald, who is likewise seen in some of the Epstein file photos. Angel suggested the release was aimed at diverting attention from other matters rather than focusing on Bill.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She also cited remarks by White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, who said there\u00a0was no evidence\u00a0<\/strong>that Bill\u00a0made numerous trips<\/strong>\u00a0to Jeffrey\u2019s private island, Little St. James.
