They Want My Home\u2014Because She\u2019s Pregnant<\/em><\/h3>\n

Buying my first home was a milestone I worked years for. I saved every spare dollar, skipped vacations, worked overtime, and finally signed the papers. It wasn\u2019t a mansion, but it was mine. My space. My peace.<\/p>\n

Then my sister announced she was pregnant.<\/p>\n

The family was thrilled. So was I\u2014until they started hinting that she needed \u201cmore space.\u201d That her apartment was \u201ctoo cramped.\u201d That my house had \u201ca yard perfect for a baby.\u201d<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t catch on at first. But then my mom sat me down and said, \u201cYou should let your sister live in your house. Just until the baby\u2019s older.\u201d<\/p>\n

I was stunned. \u201cYou mean move out?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n

She nodded. \u201cIt\u2019s the right thing to do. You\u2019re single. She has a family to raise.\u201d<\/p>\n

I couldn\u2019t believe it. I\u2019d worked for this home. Paid for it. Decorated it. Made it mine. And now, because I don\u2019t have a baby, I\u2019m expected to give it up?<\/p>\n

I said no. Firmly. Respectfully. But the backlash was immediate.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re selfish.\u201d \u201cYou don\u2019t understand what it\u2019s like to be a mother.\u201d \u201cFamily comes first.\u201d<\/p>\n

But here\u2019s what they didn\u2019t understand: I am family too. My dreams matter. My sacrifices count. And being single doesn\u2019t make me less deserving of stability.<\/p>\n

I offered to help in other ways\u2014money, babysitting, even helping them find a better apartment. But I won\u2019t give up my home. Not out of guilt. Not out of pressure.<\/p>\n

Since then, things have been tense. My sister barely speaks to me. My parents act like I\u2019ve betrayed them. But I sleep in my own bed, in my own house, knowing I stood up for myself.<\/p>\n
