The announcement, made via social media over the weekend, came with a pointed message: \u201cPeople that are against Tariffs are FOOLS!\u201d the president declared.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-13\"><\/div>\n<p>In spite of skepticism from his own treasury secretary, the White House is standing firm. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Wednesday the president remains \u201ccommitted\u201d to making the plan happen, even though she did not offer details on how it would work or who would qualify.<\/p>\n<div class=\"hb-ad-inpage\">\n<div class=\"hb-ad-inner\">\n<div id=\"hbagency_space_216766_1\" class=\"hbagency_cls hbagency_space_216766\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe president made it clear he wants to make it happen,\u201d Leavitt said to reporters, per ABC News. \u201cSo his team of economic advisers are looking into it.\u201d<\/p>\n<h1><strong>Questions grow around how the payments would work<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>The confident tone from the White House follows a less certain statement by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who revealed the payments might not take the form of direct checks.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-9\">\n<div data-cptid=\"1539520_timelesslife.info_300x250_Carpet\">\n<div id=\"1539520_timelesslife.info_300x250_Carpet\" data-gninstavoid=\"\" data-google-query-id=\"CPCXgu-S8pADFXWkYwYdA2U6iA\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/424536528,22524047711\/1539520_timelesslife.info_300x250-1_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>A tariff dividend may come \u201cin lots of forms,\u201d Bessent said on ABC News\u2019 \u201cThis Week.\u201d He added, \u201cIt could be just the tax decreases that we are seeing on the president\u2019s agenda. No tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no tax on Social Security, deductibility on auto loans. Previously, Trump-backed stimulus checks were made available to individuals earning up to $75,000 and couples earning up to $150,000. If this new initiative used a $100,000 income threshold, roughly 150 million Americans could be eligible, as per Erica York at the Tax Foundation. Yet tapping into future earnings would mean adding to the national debt, which already exceeds $38 trillion.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-4\"><\/div>\n<p>Scheduled to kick in next week, the new tariffs include a 50% tax on cabinets and potentially a 100% tax on branded or patented pharmaceuticals.
