When Susie asked her teacher if Mommy could come to \u201cDonuts with Dad,\u201d it wasn\u2019t meant to be a protest. Just a fact, spoken by a child who didn\u2019t know her words would split something wide open. \u201cShe does all the dad stuff,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

And in that moment, years of silent exhaustion finally echoed. I\u2019d been holding our family together with invisible threads\u2014doctor\u2019s appointments, school projects, soccer snacks, birthday RSVPs\u2014while Ryan worked late and said, \u201cJust remind me.\u201d I never wanted applause.
