C\u2014could\u2026 Could I please get 2 pizzas as soon as possible? Please, I\u2019m desperate!\u201d Jane said in a frightened whisper.<\/p>\n

\u201cSorry, ma\u2019am, I believe you have the wrong number.<\/p>\n

Goodbye,\u201d Denise replied, about to cut.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo! Please don\u2019t cut the call!\u201d Jane said desperately.<\/p>\n

\u201cMa\u2019am, if this is a prank, I promise you\u2014\u201d Denise started before Jane interrupted.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo\u2026 I didn\u2019t make a mistake.<\/p>\n

This is the pizzeria, and I desperately need 2 pizzas from you,\u201d Jane said. Denise heard the panic in her voice and her sniffles as if she\u2019d been crying. She began to give the situation a second thought.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlright, ma\u2019am.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m sensing that you may not be calling to actually order pizza. I\u2019m going to ask you a couple of questions. Just answer yes or no.<\/p>\n

Understood?\u201d Denise said calmly.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes,\u201d Jane responded.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre you in danger?\u201d Denise asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes,\u201d Jane replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t worry. I\u2019m tracking your IP now. Is there anyone else in the room?\u201d Denise asked, typing furiously on the computer, trying to track the IP address.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cYes.<\/p>\n

Please make it quick. My daughter and I are starving,\u201d Jane said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOkay, so you and your daughter are in danger. Is this a domestic case?\u201d Denise asked, opening her notepad and jotting notes.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes.<\/p>\n

P\u2014Please deliver the pizza as soon as possible,\u201d Jane replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cOkay. Just stay calm, Jane. So, it\u2019s a man?\u201d Denise asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes,\u201d Jane said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs he armed?<\/p>\n

Is he alone?\u201d Denise asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes\u2026 And, yes\u2026 Please, we are hungry,\u201d Jane said softly.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlright.<\/p>\n

Just hang in there, Jane. We are almost done, and we have your location. Does your house have a back entrance?\u201d Denise asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, just the front door,\u201d Jane said.<\/p>\n

Then, suddenly, Denise heard a man yelling on the phone.<\/p>\n

\u201cWho are you talking to? Hang up!\u201d the man shouted.<\/p>\n

\u201d I was just getting pizza for\u2014\u201d Jane started before a sharp knock sounded over the phone then it cut.<\/p>\n

\u201cHello? Jane?<\/p>\n

Jane, are you still there?\u201d Denise asked, but the phone had been dropped.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, Denise had already located their address and had a team on their way to Jane. The brigade team arrived at the house shortly after Jane had cut the phone. They arrived just in the nick of time too.<\/p>\n

They kicked the door to find Jane\u2019s husband drunk. Meanwhile, Jane and her daughter hid in the next room, weeping bitterly. The place was a mess, with beer bottles and pizza boxes everywhere.<\/p>\n

The brigade arrested Jane\u2019s husband on the spot and ushered Jane and her daughter to the police station.<\/p>\n

Jane always knew the requirement of her job and tried not to get too attached.<\/p>\n

But something about this case made her want to inquire further. All she wanted to know was that Jane and her little girl were okay.<\/p>\n

As fate would have it, Jane requested to speak with Denise, hoping she could thank her personally.<\/p>\n

One of Denise\u2019s detective friends handling Jane\u2019s case reached out to Denise, and she scheduled a meeting with Jane.<\/p>\n

Jane and Denise met for lunch. Jane even came with her daughter, Matilda. Jane and Matilda were both very grateful for Denise\u2019s help.<\/p>\n

Denise was just grateful that they were both safe.<\/p>\n

Jane explained that things weren\u2019t always like that with her husband. They had married several years back. Matilda was Jane\u2019s husband\u2019s daughter, and she became her own after they married.<\/p>\n

Denise learned that before he became a tyrant in their home, he was pretty normal.<\/p>\n

However, after losing his job, he started to drink heavily, and his behavior changed. He started not treating Jane and Matilda right.<\/p>\n

By the time things got terrible, Jane truly saw Matilda as her own child and could not just up and leave the relationship.<\/p>\n

A week ago, he saw Jane talking to a man at the grocery store and completely lost it. He locked Jane and Matilda at home and did not let them out.<\/p>\n

Jane\u2019s story touched Denise deeply, and she promised to help however she could.<\/p>\n

In the end, she didn\u2019t have to. Jane\u2019s husband was arrested, and the court denied him his parental rights. Jane took sole custody of Matilda and loved her as her own.<\/p>\n

Jane and Matilda underwent therapy together, and after a couple of months, with the help of their new friend, Denise, they were able to piece their life back together again.<\/p>\n
