Then, she\u2019ll disappear for twenty or thirty minutes. I told her straight up that I had to leave in 15 minutes for an appointment, and she promised she wouldn&#8217;t be long. I took her at her word and played with my niece. But as the clock ticked down to the final minute before I had to walk out the door, she still hadn&#8217;t come out.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wl-brightside.cf.tsp.li\/resize\/728x\/jpg\/39f\/288\/0c518f50658e81166bc21ac790.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"5\">I messaged her. She said, &#8220;One more minute.&#8221; That minute passed. I went to the bathroom door and yelled that I was leaving <i data-path-to-node=\"5\" data-index-in-node=\"123\">now<\/i>. No response. I suspect she had her noise-canceling headphones on, or she was just flat-out ignoring me.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"5\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wl-brightside.cf.tsp.li\/resize\/728x\/jpg\/310\/609\/2fd73b55fe970cfa203dc9e295.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"6\">I didn&#8217;t have any more time to waste. I couldn&#8217;t miss my appointment because she refused to be a parent. So, I looked at my two-year-old niece and told her, &#8220;Go get your mommy.&#8221; Then, I walked out. As the door closed, I could hear her crying and running after me, but I didn&#8217;t stop.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"7\">When I got home later, my sister was absolutely ballistic. She screamed at me for &#8220;abandoning&#8221; her daughter and leaving her in tears. I didn&#8217;t back down. I told her I gave her a specific time, I warned her multiple times, and ultimately, she\u2019s not my child.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8\">I felt a twinge of guilt for the kid, but I\u2019ve realized that if I keep enabling my sister\u2019s behavior, it will only get worse.
