The POTUS issued Carney with a devastating ultimatum<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Donald Trump has warned Canadian PM Mark Carney that his country would be \u2018devoured\u2019 if it goes ahead with a foreign trade deal.<\/p>\n

His comments come after Carney took to the stage at the World Economic Forum in Davos on 20 January to slam Trump\u2019s controversial effort to acquire Greenland.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cIt seems that every day we\u2019re reminded that we live in an era of great power rivalry, that the rules based order is fading, that the strong can do what they can, and the weak must suffer what they must.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn Arctic sovereignty, we stand firmly with Greenland and Denmark, and fully support their unique right to determine Greenland\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

\u201cCanada strongly opposes tariffs over Greenland and calls for focused talks to achieve our shared objectives of security and prosperity in the Arctic.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe old order is not coming back. We should not mourn it. Nostalgia is not a strategy.\u201d<\/p>\n

He called for \u2018middle powers\u2019 like Canada to \u2018stop pretending, to name reality, to build our strength at home and to act together\u2019.<\/p>\n

Recently, Carney met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and announced they had reached a trade deal that included electric vehicles, per the BBC.<\/p>\n

At the time, Donald Trump called their deal \u2018a good thing\u2019 but seems to have made a U-turn on his position.<\/p>\n

In a Truth Social post on January 24, Trump called the PM \u2018governor\u2019 and told him there\u2019s no hope for the nation to make its promising trade deal with China.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf Governor Carney thinks he is going to make Canada a \u2018Drop Off Port\u2019 for China to send goods and products into the United States, he is sorely mistaken,\u201d he wrote online.<\/p>\n

\u201cChina will eat Canada alive, completely devour it, including the destruction of their businesses, social fabric, and general way of life.\u201d<\/p>\n

He then threatened the neighboring country, telling Carney: \u201cIf Canada makes a deal with China, it will immediately be hit with a 100% Tariff against all Canadian goods and products coming into the U.S.A. Thank you for your attention to this matter!\u201d<\/p>\n

The Chinese deal would see Canada ease tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles and China would in turn, lower levies on Canadian agricultural products.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s change in position might have something to do with Carney\u2019s Davos speech, which appeared to have rattled the POTUS who responded: \u201cCanada lives because of the United States. Remember that, Mark, the next time you make your statements.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in his speech, Carney said: \u201cFor decades, countries like Canada prospered under what we called the rules-based international order.\u201d<\/p>\n

He stated that Canada had \u2018joined its institutions, we praised its principles, we benefited from its predictability\u2019 which allowed it to \u2018pursue values-based foreign policies under its protection.\u2019<\/p>\n

Calling the international rules-based order \u2018partially false that the strongest would exempt themselves when convenient,\u2019 and \u2018that trade rules were enforced asymmetrically\u2019, he said Canada no longer wants to be part of it.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cOver the past two decades, a series of crises in finance, health, energy and geopolitics have laid bare the risks of extreme global integration. But more recently, great powers have begun using economic integration as weapons, tariffs as leverage, financial infrastructure as coercion, supply chains as vulnerabilities to be exploited.<\/p>\n
