I Refuse to Be My Sister’s Free Nail Model Anymore—I’m Not Her Mannequin

I’m Maggie, and for four months, I was my sister’s most dedicated supporter. She’s a self-taught nail artist building her portfolio, so when she asked me to model, I said yes immediately. I sat through grueling, hours-long sessions, often rearranging my schedule or staying up late to study for exams just to help her chase her dream. I never asked for a dime; I just thought that’s what sisters do for each other.

But as her sessions got longer and more frequent—often at the last minute—I realized I was burnt out. I finally told her that if she needed me this much, she’d have to either start paying me for my time or at least respect my schedule. Her response? Total silence. For days.

When she finally did message me, it wasn’t an apology. It was an itemized invoice for $350. She was charging me for all the “products” she used during the sessions she begged me to attend! Now, she’s telling our whole family that I “used” her for free services and refused to pay. My mom wants me to apologize to “keep the peace” for her upcoming birthday, but I refuse to say sorry for being a supportive sister who finally set a boundary. I’m not her mannequin, and I’m definitely not her customer.
