I refused to facilitate a bond just because she’s infertile—my children are not emotional surrogates for her pain, and their comfort comes first

The background to the story is that Samantha divorced her ex-husband after he cheated on her for four years. The ex-husband married the woman he cheated with, whom Samantha calls Jane. They have three children together, and the ex-husband and Jane tried but failed to gain full custody of the kids.

The main conflict began when Samantha’s ex-husband called her and made an unexpected request: “Can you help Jane bond with the kids? She’s infertile.”

Samantha’s immediate reaction was to laugh and hang up, feeling the request was “ridiculous.”

The situation escalated when Samantha’s son revealed that Jane had been showing up at their school several times, attempting to pick the children up or take them to lunch in an effort to “bond” with them. The children had consistently refused her attempts.

Samantha called her ex-husband, who confirmed that it was Jane’s idea. Samantha told both of them, very clearly, to “leave us alone.”

In response, the ex-husband began sending Samantha multiple texts, calling her “cruel” and “mean to Jane.” Samantha is left frustrated and confused, feeling it is “insane” that the woman who helped ruin her marriage now expects to insert herself into her children’s lives. She questions whether she is overreacting to the interference.
