After the Cr@sh, My Husband Chose Someone Else Over Me—Everything Changed

PART 1

“If you must choose, doctor, save Natalie first. My wife can wait.”

Those were the words that made me understand my marriage had ended long before the accident.

The crash happened on a Friday afternoon while we were driving back from lunch in Beverly HillsDominic was behind the wheel. Natalie, his lifelong friend, sat beside him, complaining that she felt faint. I was in the back seat, still swallowing the argument we had just had.

Then a truck stopped suddenly.

Everything happened at once.

At the hospital, Natalie and I were rushed in almost together. She had minor injuries. I was in serious condition, barely able to stay conscious. A nurse shouted that my blood pressure was dropping and that I needed surgery immediately.

But Dominic looked at the doctor and said, “Take Natalie first. She’s fragile. She has heart problems.”

The nurse stared at him. “Mr. Vance, your wife is worse. We need permission to operate.”

Dominic glanced at me for one second. There was no fear in his eyes. Only irritation. “She’s awake, isn’t she? Let her sign. Natalie goes first.”

Something inside me went cold.

For three years, I had been expected to understand why Natalie always came first. If she cried, Dominic ran. If she felt lonely, he left me behind. If she accused me of being jealous, I was the one forced to apologize. His mother always said, “A Vance wife must be mature. Natalie is like family.”
